WI Dying Cloth for Pageant Play King Henry VIII in 1934
From the Westerham Herald for 1934: All roads led to “Franks Hall” near Dartford on Wednesday where a vast audience of nearly three thousand people assembled to witness performances of Shakespeare’s great pageant play “King Henry VIII” which, together with a series of short plays, was presented at the Drama Festival organised by Mrs. Granville Streatfeild (county representative for Drama) under the auspices of the West Kent Federation of Women’s Institutes…
…for the costumes alone – and there were some 500 performers – 1500 yards of material had been specially dyed in many lovely colours and shaded hues in the Westerham Women’s Institute by Mrs. Skilbeck, Miss M. Best, Miss M. Morris, Miss Turner, Mrs. Pointer and Mrs. Granville Streatfeild.
