Westerham Country Dance Society circa 1934
Westerham Country Dance Society was started by Mr and Mrs Granville Streatfeild. Minute books have yet to surface for the society, so at this time (2018) it is not known who they competed against. Seated in the centre front-row left to right are Lucy Streatfeild, her husband Granville Streatfeild and the then President of the Women’s Institute, Eleanor Joy Busk as shown in the second photograph.
The second photograph shows the cup winners standing behind Granville Streatfeild, and the chap holding the larger cup is John Hooker, film maker, butterfly collector and local telephone engineer. John was the grandson of local printer Charles Hooker, and without the obsessive collecting of these two men, and the subsequent custodianship of local resident Paul Bullock, much of our website would not exist.
