June Heath takes a mental stroll up the High Street from the Laundry opposite the Drill Hall just after the war. “…just before Lodge Lane there was William Evans, a butcher, where the betting shop was (in 2018 Grace Hair Design) and a little further up, opposite the Co-op  was ‘The Old Way’ a rather nice tea and cakey shop run by two elderly sisters, the Misses Watts – its the funeral shop now. What’s the Courtyard now was where Mr Bowser the coal-merchant had his office – you could book there for theatre tickets…”
