Bowls in Westerham started in the garden of the Kings Arms. The pitch, however, was too small for formal matches and could not be expanded, due to an ancient tree line. A new pitch was built on Dunsdale land just behind West Lodge at the bottom of Hosey Hill. In 1937 when King George's field was created, the bowls club moved to their present location.
