“…Completion of Westerham’s latest road improvement, the widening is seen in its final stages in the ‘Chronicle’ picture above – creates an amusing anomaly – a single street sharing two names. Divided until recently by a hedge, Westbury Terrace of ten Victorian semi-detached houses and Nursery Site, with twenty post-1918 council houses, were worlds apart. Now they face one another – either side of the same street. One side is still Farley Nursery, distinguished only by numbers; the other Westbury Terrace, where the houses each bear distinctive names. What will the road be called? ‘Archibald Avenue’ suggested one facetious resident in recalling the part which Captain A.F. Cooper, R.N., one of Westerham’s Rural District Council members, played in bringing about the improvement…”
