Westbury Terrace 1910

On the left of frame the hedge that bordered Farley Nursery site. This was to be the subject of some controversy when the nursery was closed and social housing was built on the other side of the hedge between 1925-7. It was not until 1952 that the hedge was grubbed-out and a road surface laid on what became Westerham’s unique ‘street with two names’ – Westbury Terrace on one side and Nursery Site on the other.
When we moved into ‘Colpetty’ in Westbury Terrace, Peggy Johnson our next door neighbour, showed us this photograph and named all the children. Trouble is, nobody wrote the names down…
