Map 1951 Dunsdale
In 1949 the Valence estate (only) was purchased by Kent County Council to rehouse Laleham School for girls that had outgrown its earlier premises in Hartfield, Sussex. In 1951 the status was changed to that of Valence School for physically handicapped children.
In 1949 the run-down Dunsdale estate and Valence Wood were sold to Llewellyn Jones, a property developer. In 1950 the mansion at Dunsdale was pulled down and the estate broken up and sold off as separate developments. This section of the 1951 map shows the lake (Fish Pond), but no mansion adjacent. Within two years Jones had built a bungalow on the site of the old building and the fairy-tale gothic mansion was consigned to history in old photographs.
The bungalow, shown here was sizeable being a main house with 2 reception rooms, kitchen and 4 bedrooms, bathroom and w.c., and an annexe with 2 reception rooms, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The property standing in 26 acres of parkland was sold in 1956 and then advertised for sale again in 1995 with a guide price of £300,000…
