FE Woolleys XI Westerham
Frank Edward Woolley (27 May 1887 – 18 October 1978) was an English professional cricketer, one of the finest bowlers and batsmen the game has ever seen. In a career lasting more than thirty years, he scored more first-class runs than anyone but Sir Jack Hobbs, and took over 2,000 wickets at an average of under 20. A left-handed bowler, he was considered an outstanding all-rounder in the game, playing for Kent and England between 1906 and 1938.
Around his retirement, Frank Woolley put together a Veteran’s XI from Surrey and local cricketers who played a few charity matches at the Toll Cricket Ground on Squerryes Park, where this photograph was taken just before World War II.
