1914 Westerham remembers
In 2014 Westerham Town Partnership held an event called ‘Westerham remembers the Summer of 1914’ in which the shop windows displayed adverts and artefacts from what they had been at that time, the road was closed for a uniformed procession and a dedicated bunch of volunteers built a WWI trench in the garden of the British Legion in Mill Lane. On a beautiful sunny day the week before the event, Roger Stiles (in uniform whenever he possibly can) and Barry Streets fill ‘sandbags’ for the trench in the Legion garden. There’s probably a pint of Guinness around there somewhere…
Sadly, the British Legion clubhouse closed its doors for the last time at the end of June 2017. We well remember.
